| Description: This course asks: how do large, macroscopic forces of racial violence, trauma, and identity manifest themselves in the everyday lived experiences of individuals? We will explore this question through a semester-long exploration of artistic production from the Asian-American diaspora, including paintings, films, novels, memoirs, and music. Materials to be explored include the film "Everything Everywhere All at Once"; the novels and poetry of writers such as Viet Thanh Nguyen and Ocean Vuong; the music such as Japanese Breakfast, Thao and the Get Down Stay Down, and The Linda Lindas. |
