Course Title: Foundations of Voice

Description: This course will introduce singers to the physiology of human voice and healthy vocal technique through readings and visual sources on vocal anatomy. Students will examine vocal repertoire spanning approximately 500 years, explore various Western/international singing styles in English, Italian, French, German, etc., as well as receiving an introduction to diction, the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), and its application to various languages. Music of composers from historically marginalized backgrounds will be highlighted. Theoretical knowledge will culminate in practical demonstrations via presentations and performances in class.
