Description: This course explores humans' ubiquitous and multifaceted engagement in dance, the psychological foundations of dance, and the psychological outcomes of engaging in dance. Dance can make us feel, can elicit memories, can help us form social connections, and is embedded in culture. We will discuss these interdisciplinary connections between dance and areas of psychological study including cognitive, social, developmental, clinical, and cultural psychology. Students will consider areas of study including the influence of dance on learning, cognition, and mental health, dance training and expertise, dance and social bonds, dance and beauty, and psychophysiological responses to dance.
