Course Title: Advanced Seminar: 'Gender Inequality and Economic Development in the Global South: Challenges, Contradictions, and Contestations'

Description: This course explores the complex relationships between economic development and gender inequality in the global South. Students will be introduced to the theoretical frameworks and debates that shape the analysis of gender and economic development and will draw on these frameworks to analyze interactions between gender relations and economic development policies and processes in different contexts. Topics include the household as a unit of analysis; the gender division of labor: paid and unpaid work: the feminization of the labor force in the global economy; poverty; asset inequality; the informal economy; environmental governance; microfinance; and migration.
