Course Title: Topics: 'Technology for the Visually Impaired and Blind'
Start Date: 09/04/2024 End Date: 12/17/2024
Term: Fall Semester 2024
Description: Life for the visually impaired and blind (VIB) can be very challenging. Both low-tech devices, such as white canes, and high-tech devices, such as Siri, can help VIB people overcome some of these challenges. In this course, we will read about, discuss, and experiment with devices across the low tech to high tech spectrum, to understand how they work and how effective they are. We will also look at technology being created to support VIB programmers, data scientists, and other professionals in their work. We will learn the routine things we should be doing to make websites and apps accessible to the VIB, and also stretch our imaginations and awareness about what may be possible in the future.
