Course Title: Topics in Creative Writing: 'Building Literary Community'
Start Date: 01/23/2024 End Date: 05/07/2024
Term: Spring Semester 2024
Description: Writing is a necessary but not sufficient condition for the creation of literature. Together, we will study and participate in various literary communities. We will investigate literary ecosystems, looking at how writing is published, circulated, and rewarded; as well as at labor conditions, ongoing inequities, and possibilities for disruption. Our class will serve as an incubator for new and existing student literary production. Students will work individually and collaboratively on projects such as writing reviews, producing broadsides or chapbooks, hosting readings, advocacy, and more. Visitors may include agents, book or journal editors, reviewers, designers, booksellers, and organizers.
