Course Title: Special Topics in Critical Social Thought: 'Frames of Mind: Tracking Power/Knowledge'
Start Date: 01/24/2022 End Date: 05/09/2022
Term: Spring Semester 2022
Description: A frame of mind typically refers to a mood or perspective. However, such dispositions also reflect a certain regulation of thought and thus behavior. In other words, something "frames" our minds in the first place. This course explores these ideas by interrogating the history of commonplace assumptions regarding issues such as freedom, race, prison, sexuality, government, and insanity. Authors include Giorgio Agamben, Wendy Brown, Michel Foucault, Friedrich Nietzsche, Edward Said, Ann Laura Stoler, and others.
