| Description: This course will apply a critical community psychological lens to unpack the reality of financial hardship in the U.S. Topics will include: an introduction to the core values, theories, and tools of community psychology; an exploration of how traditional economic measures (like the Federal Poverty Level, inflation rate, unemployment rate) are defined and used in practice; the implementation and implications of social support policies like SNAP, WIC, TANIF, and Social Security; and how the strengths and weaknesses of the economy and the lived experiences of people experiencing financial hardship are portrayed by the media. |
