| Description: This course examines the profound changes that journalism has undergone in the digital age. Students will study the impact of technology on journalism historically, focusing on how each age establishes its own vocabulary and syntax. They will then focus on changes that have arrived in our own time, on how the internet, social media, and the cell phone have delivered the tools of journalism beyond the professional class to ordinary citizens and how this has both enhanced and frustrated the role of the journalist in our society. Students will do their own journalism work in various new media forms and develop skills that will make them both better consumers of digital media and better digital media journalist. |
